Happy Halloween!

We have been incredibly busy lately. I have to do a post about a kayaking trip we took. But this one is about my little stinkers. They were so incredibly cute! a cute little card we had taken.
Aren't they just too cute! You should have seen the head turns we got with these two. The stripe looks like a mohawk so I just love it!

We went to the mall earlier in the morning with Bree and had a good time at the playground and then at the bookstore.
Later that night we headed over to a friend's house for some trick or treating. The boys were a little cranky but very excited.
This is a card we got when we went to picture people, sorry it is crooked.

Hello

Well, I didn't think it had been so long since I've posted but apparently, it has been a really long time! A lot has been going on and we have just been so busy with life in general that there hasn't been much time for anything else. So here are a few pictures. We have gone to W. Palm to visit Uncle Milton about every other month and it seems to really take a toll on everything. The boys are getting huge and have been working on the role of "alpha male", as in they never stop fighting. They fight over everything all of the time. The good news is they have started to play together but it is difficult if you aren't sitting right next to them. Alex has started to have just as vivid of an imagination as Nick. It is really funny to watch them try to wrestle both with and without Jeff. I have started to plant some flowers and plants in the front yard and the transformation has been incredible. We found some really nice nurseries in the area that are REALLY cheap, and if you know me, you know that is what I am all about. I found some trees in the back yard that we didn't cut down and had taken root, about 4 feet tall each, we moved those to the front and then also thinned out some other plants from the last few years. It has been a really big change and I am really enjoying it. This is the first time I have gardened so much since I lived with my parents. My mom's yard was always beautiful so I have something to strive towards. Although, I will admit, planting in Florida is like trying to make something grow on the beach, it might work for a little while but not for a long time, a lot more work for sure.

Bree and I on our first Kayaking trip, soooo much fun, and reallyl hard work too.

Nick at Lithia Springs, they have a ton of fish and the water is freezing (not a big deal when it is 95 degrees). The springs are completely natural and scattered all over the state, mostly in the north. A big contributor to the sinkhole problem we have in the state as well.

Alex at Lithia Springs, he loves it but his little white self can't handle the freezing water.

The boys loved this antique Willy's Jeep we drove by, the guy was nice enough to let them sit and stand by it. Almost completely restored and gorgeous, he was painting some grenades to go with it when we stopped by.

Our little man, Nick refused to stand in front of it, Alex loved it!

The zoo for Grandma's birthday.

The boys and I took a trip to MOSI (museum of science and industry) during Swaptember, when our zoo pass is good at MOSI and the aquarium. I think Alex (on the left) is catching up to Nick pretty fast, we get the twins question an awful lot now.

The boys both playing garbage men at the desk, they were so cute right before leaving!

Alex on our way home from Milton's house, what a comedian he is!

The boys with Grandma having dinner, we love matching outfits.

Nick at the zoo holding the friendliest lizard ever. He must be hand fed or something.

The boys eating pudding while I garden, they love helping Mommy (especially when food is involved)

Alex was scared to death of the fireworks while we were doing it but hasn't stopped asking to see them again since then.

Does cancer affect someone you know?

There is a great new web site that a friend of mine and a group of other cancer moms started - http://onevoiceproject.ning.com/. They are a great resource for someone who had a recently diagnosed child or anyone who is affected by childhood cancer. So if you know someone or are someone who this might help, please pass it on. Anissa also has her own blog which is hilarious and heartfelt. Feel free to check it out - http://www.hope4peyton.org/, she recently made some changes so if you haven't taken a look in a while please do so.

We are all doing well, just busy and overwhelmed, I will try to update a recent trip to W. Palm soon. I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy and happy!

Hippy mama

So maybe you didn't know it, but I am a hippy through and through (aside from the drug thing). See how you match up to my hippy list, I am working on doing more but it is always a struggle to add a new habit.

1. I have always used cloth diapers. I love them and would never change, no matter how many loads I have to do a day/week. I am lazy, I do diapers every 3-5 days and I won't even tell you what they look like in this humid bug loving weather.

2. I also use cloth wipes and cloth napkins/paper towels. I have gotten Jeff to agree to this and although he sometimes uses paper napkins, he prefers the cloth. They are cleaner, bigger and just better for the environment and the family. You can reuse them several times before washing and then just throw them in with the diapers.

3. We recycle. This isn't as easy as it sounds but we do it religiously. Not only do we recycle garbage, we recycle EVERYTHING. I save cups, I will sometimes buy a different brand simply because of the package it comes in. I save every oatmeal container I use for storage and organizing toys and crafts. You would be amazed at what you can do with your garbage. I have gone so far to buy the little Gerber cups from someone online to use for homemade baby food. They rock! (if you have these and throw them away, please stop, I will pay for shipping:)

4. I don't eat fast food. Seriously, fast food accounts for 1% of the country's waste. Diapers alone account for .01%, that is a huge difference and a huge waste. I have boycotted McDonald's for the past 10 years. I refuse to even use their playground or touch their sodas (like I would drink soda).

5. We eat whole foods when possible. I love whole foods and have noticed a huge difference since eliminating "enriched" wheat products. Check the labels, everything is enriched and a lot of it has high fructose corn syrup or products I have no idea what they do added. We eat as close to whole foods as possible, it may not be the best for you (say bacon!) but it is close to its original form. If it is more than a few steps from original form, it isn't good for you and has a ton of preservatives.

6. We ride our bike. We try to ride or walk whenever possible. Not always possible but we try to choose the store closer to home or the group of them so that we can walk between them. We actually rarely shop new anyway. I shop at the Salvation Army a lot (1/2 off days) and also go to a lot of garage sales.

7. If its yellow leave it mellow, if its brown, flush it down. Think about it - 5 gallons of water PER FLUSH!

8. Faster showers, save time by not shaving (just kidding, Jeff won't let me do that) Shave with the water off or turn it off for a few minutes while you clean/shave.

9. Keep the lights off during the day, use candles. We try to keep as many lights off as possible, Nick always remembers this. We also try not to use the a/c, we live in Florida though and seriously, it is hot and humid! (and if you leave the doors open the bugs and spiders get in, doesn't happen as often as it should).

10. Buy used. Not only is it cheaper, you are recycling the item and saving a few more years from a half century in the land fill.

11. Tankless water heater. We recently installed this and it runs on electric. I actually hate it but it does save energy and water. If you run on Gas I recommend it, otherwise, skip it. We also use low water usage toilets,

So while I am trying a lot, I know I could try more. What do you do that would be helpful.

Alex too

Okay, Alex also started walking so I thought I would show him giving it his best effort here. He has gotten a lot better since this video which was on 1/12/08. (please ignore the horrible mess that is our house, that is another thing I don't have time fore:)

Hey stranger

So it has been a while. I have been incredibly busy and blogging has just been at the bottom of the list. Although I will occassionally check others sites I haven't had a ton of time. I thought I would post this video as it just cracked me up. They boys have been changing more and more every day. We are thinking about getting Nick into a music class as he just loves to sing and dance. He is singing the Wheels on the bus in this clip I believe. He actually is crammed into a tiny little basket (his bed) and is naked (hence the chest up shot). He was like this when I came out of Alex's room, singing at the top of his lungs - "someone's in the kitchen with DINAH, someone's in the kitchen with DINAH!". I hope everyone else is well and hopefully I will be able to post more about the current happenings soon.

Also, I recently started a new job, working with two year olds at a daycare. I take the kids with me for 1.5 hours and then Jeff picks them up. It has been really fun (although challenging) and I am still working during the day with the two little ones at my heals. Tiring to say the least.
